Change

Change back to the good old days?

When unions were the Devil and workers told to "get on your bike".

When social security claimants were scroungers, and the deserving rich rewarded with tax cuts.

When council houses were sold off cheap to bring in people more likely to vote the "right" way.

We need radical change.

We need votes to count. We need more than 140 constituencies or so out of 646 where it's worth voting at all.

What is a marginal seat

We need votes against the ruling or prospective ruling party to count.

And if that makes it tough for politicians, meaning ever-shifting coalitions of people with entrenched positions having to negotiate with each other before the law or policy is agreed... well hard luck!

In the modern democratic world, politicians are handed the authority to make decisions on our behalf on the increasingly thin basis that hundreds of years ago it was not practical for all eligible voters to express their preference on every issue.

It is well past time that we hand over authority to govern to a party supported by a minority of those who voted as happened in almost every election in the 20th century.

The Lib Dems must do everything they can to enable this constitutional change so we can have a truly representative government from the election that follows.
